Tiger Woods is widely regarded as one of the most recognisable figures in golf, with a record defined by both trophies and vast earnings. However, the American made headlines for reasons beyond the sport on Friday, March 27.
Woods was involved in a crash between two vehicles on Jupiter Island, Florida. Although no one was hurt, officials alleged that Woods had been driving under impairment. According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the golfer climbed out of his Land Rover via the passenger side after the collision, as per a USA Today report.
Tiger Woods, aged 50, faces allegations of driving under the influence, property damage and refusing a lawful test after declining to provide a urine sample following the accident.
Budensiek described the offences as misdemeanours. He noted that alcohol did not appear to be involved, suggesting instead that impairment may have stemmed from medication or drugs, though no such substance was initially found.

What Is Tiger Woods' Net Worth?
Tiger Woods has a net worth of $1.5 billion as of March 27, according to Forbes. He also holds the PGA Tour record for prize money, having amassed $121 million in winnings.
Tiger Woods was officially recognised as a billionaire by Forbes in 2022, becoming only the second active athlete to do so, following LeBron James. The landmark came even after Woods reportedly rejected an extraordinarily lucrative approach from LIV Golf. According to CEO Greg Norman, the proposed deal would have been worth well into the upper nine-figure bracket.
Beyond prize money, Tiger Woods has built a substantial investment footprint, owning two homes on Jupiter Island, having interests in golf course design and the upscale mini-golf chain PopStroke.
In 2022, Woods joined forces with Rory McIlroy to establish TMRW Sports, a tech-driven venture that went on to launch the TGL competition in 2025.
Woods has also partnered with Justin Timberlake and Joe Lewis in Nexxus, a venture focused on high-end real estate.
