Modi At G7 Summit 2025: Schedule, Importance Of PM's Visit And All You Need To Know
The Kananaskis gathering on June 16-17 is the Prime Minister’s 6th consecutive participation in the G7 Summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday arrived in Canada to attend the G7 Summit being held in Kananaskis. This marks PM Modi’s first visit to Canada in a decade, which followed his trip to Cyprus on Monday.
Canada is the second destination of PM Modi’s ongoing four-day trip, which will conclude with his visit to Croatia. Canada’s newly sworn-in Prime Minister Mark Carney invited him to attend the summit.
The Kananaskis gathering on June 16-17 is the Prime Minister’s 6th consecutive participation in the G7 Summit. The core focus area for the G7 summit will be strengthening peace and security, preventing transnational crime, tackling problems like wildfires, energy security, among other things.
"At the summit, the Prime Minister will exchange views with leaders of G-7 countries, other invited outreach countries and Heads of International Organisations on crucial global issues, including energy security, technology and innovation, particularly the AI-energy nexus and Quantum-related issues," the Ministry of External Affairs said.
Notably, the visit comes at a time when India-Canada diplomatic relations are at their lowest in decades. The strain was triggered by former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s serious allegations against the Indian government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of orchestrating targeted killings of Khalistan supporters on Canadian soil. India strongly denied the claims, accusing Trudeau of engaging in vote-bank politics. The controversy led to significant diplomatic fallout between the two countries.
When Carney won the elections this year, PM Modi was one of the first leaders to congratulate him. He also spoke about strengthening India-Canadian ties in a post on X on April 29. Now, with Carney’s invitation for PM Modi, this summit might serve as a starting point to repair the ties between the two nations.
PM Modi's Schedule At G7 Summit
PM Modi is also likely to hold a bilateral meeting with all G7 leaders on the sidelines of the summit. G7 is an international group of the seven advanced economies: France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada and the European Union.
It is expected that during this bilateral meeting, the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack and the subsequent military escalation between India and Pakistan may also be discussed. Following the deadly terrorist attack on April 22, India launched Operation Sindoor against Pakistan-based terrorist groups in early May. The subsequent escalation resulted in significant damage to Pakistan’s military infrastructure.
Additionally, the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and Israel’s recent attack on Iran will also likely be discussed during the G7 summit.
The leaders are also expected to discuss about tariffs with US President Donald Trump, whose import policies nearly upended the global economy earlier this year.
Trump is set to hold a bilateral meeting with Carney on Monday. He will also meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
