Iran on Wednesday hit back at US President Donald Trump over his 'ceasefire claim and said that only Iran and Oman will decide the future of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that Trump's statements about Iran's request for a ceasefire are false and baseless.

In a post on Truth social, Trump claimed that Iran's New Regime President has just asked the United States of America for a ceasefire.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said that no ceasefire proposal has been made by Iran.

However, Araghchi confirmed direct contact with Trump's top envoy Steve Witkoff, but downplayed talks of negotiations.

“I receive messages from Witkoff directly, as before, and this does not mean that we are in negotiations,” he said.

“There is no truth to the claim of negotiations with any party in Iran. All messages are conveyed through the Foreign Ministry or received by it, and there are communications between security agencies,” he added.

He also argued that the waters of the Strait of Hormuz fall under the territorial control of Iran and Oman, and the two nations will decide on it once the war is over. However, he added that the strait should be a “peaceful waterway”.

On Tuesday, Trump hinted at ending the Iran war sooner, saying that the US is not going to be there too much longer.

“We're not going to be there too much longer. We're obliterating the s–t out of them right now, it's a total obliteration. But we won't have to be there much longer,” Trump told New York Post.

Trump also said that other countries can sort out the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the key shipping route will open automatically.

Whereas, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that the upcoming days in Tehran will be decisive amid escalating tensions.

Addressing a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth said that the US has more and more options, and Iran has less.

"In only one month we set the terms. The upcoming days will be decisive, Iran knows that,” Hegseth said.
