Eid Ul-Adha Moon Sighting Updates: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Pakistan Confirm Dhul Hijjah Crescent Sighting; Eid On May 27

While the crescent was not seen in other Indian states, Jammu & Kashmir confirmed late on Sunday that the moon marking the start of Dhul Hijjah has been observed. Accordingly, the festival will be celebrated in the union territory on May 27.

The announcement came from J&K's Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, who said that positive testimonies were received from parts of J&K and Kargil, as reported by local news agency JKNS.

Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have also confirmed the sighting of Dhul Hijjah crescent. Accordingly, the festival will be observed in both the countries on Wednesday, May 27.

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries will celebrate Eid al-Adha a day before India, as per the usual precedent. The Dhul Hijjah crescent has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, Oman and neighbouring nations, whereas there was no positive sighting in India. Read more.

Subsequently, the blessed month of Dhul Hijjah will commence tonight, and ‘Eid al-Adha will be observed on Wednesday 27th May 2026, In shā Allāh. May Allāh ﷻ grant the hujjāj a safe, accepted and spiritually uplifting Hajj, ease every stage of their journey, and return them home forgiven like the day they were born. Aameen. May He ﷻ also allow us all to maximise the blessed first ten days of Dhul Hijjah through dhikr, fasting, du‘ā, charity and righteous deeds, and may He accept all of our worship and efforts. Saudi Arabia has confirmed the sighting of Dhul Hijjah crescent. Accordingly, Eid will be observed in the country on Wednesday, May 27.

"The crescent of Dhul Hijjah has been sighted. Therefore, the first day of Eid Al Adha 1447 AH will be on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, confirms the Main Committee for Moon-sighting," Oman News Agency reported.

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia will announce its final decision on Eid al-Adha moon sighting shortly, after positive testimonies are received from locals. The decision is expected at 6:35 am, corresponding to 9:05 pm IST.

Ruet-e-Hilal committees in Indian states have confirmed that Eid al-Adha will be observed on Thursday, May 28. There was no sighting of crescent reported on Sunday. Accordingly, the first date of Dhul Hijjah will be Tuesday, May 19. Read full report.

If there is no positive sighting in Saudi Arabia, then this would mark a rare instance when Eid would be celebrated in the Indian subcontinent and across the Gulf together, on Thursday, May 28. The Dhul Hijjah crescent has not been sighted in any part of India. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committees of Karnataka and West Bengal have confirmed that Eid al-Adha will be observed on Thursday, May 28.

The Dhul Hijjah crescent has not been sighted in West Bengal, according to the Kolkata-based Masjid-e-Nakhoda Markazi Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

The Sultanate of Brunei confirmed in a statement that no crescent was seen. Accordingly, the first date of Dhul Hijjah will be May 19, and Eid al-Adha in the country will be observed on Thursday, May 28.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Pakistan is expected to shortly announce its decision on the sighting of moon. If the moon is sighted, then Eid al-Adha will be observed on Wednesday, May 26.

If tomorrow, Monday, is 1 Dhu al-Hijjah, then the day of Arafah will be the following Tuesday (May 26). And Eid al-Adha will be the following Wednesday, May 27.

However, if the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, is 1 Dhu al-Hijjah: then, the day of Arafah will be the following Wednesday, and Eid al-Adha will be on Thursday, May 28, in Saudi Arabia.
