Eid Ul-Adha Moon Sighting LIVE: Saudi Arabia, UAE Decision Awaited; No Crescent Seen In India

If there is no positive sighting in Saudi Arabia, then this would mark a rare instance when Eid would be celebrated in the Indian subcontinent and across the Gulf together, on Thursday, May 28. The Dhul Hijjah crescent has not been sighted in any part of India. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committees of Karnataka and West Bengal have confirmed that Eid al-Adha will be observed on Thursday, May 28.

The Dhul Hijjah crescent has not been sighted in West Bengal, according to the Kolkata-based Masjid-e-Nakhoda Markazi Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

The official announcements from Saudi Arabia and the UAE on Eid al-Adha moon sighting is expected in a few minutes from now. Other Gulf countries would also subsequently confirm the sighting of Dhul Hijjah crescent.

The Sultanate of Brunei confirmed in a statement that no crescent was seen. Accordingly, the first date of Dhul Hijjah will be May 19, and Eid al-Adha in the country will be observed on Thursday, May 28.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Pakistan is expected to shortly announce its decision on the sighting of moon. If the moon is sighted, then Eid al-Adha will be observed on Wednesday, May 26.

If tomorrow, Monday, is 1 Dhu al-Hijjah, then the day of Arafah will be the following Tuesday (May 26). And Eid al-Adha will be the following Wednesday, May 27.

However, if the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, is 1 Dhu al-Hijjah: then, the day of Arafah will be the following Wednesday, and Eid al-Adha will be on Thursday, May 28, in Saudi Arabia.

Along with Saudi Arabia, the religious authorities in the neighbouring Gulf countries of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen would also be announcing their decisions on Dhul Hijjah moon sighting. However, the most authoritative decision, tracked by Muslims globally, is of the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia. The decision is finalised after receiving positive sighting testimonies from the designated religious authorities.
