Trendspotting: IPL Dominates Google Search This Week — Here's How The Iconic League Started

According to data from Google Trends, IPL matches remained the top searched topics on the search engine platform this week.

The 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which kick-started late last month, remained among the top-searched queries on Google in India this week, as per the latest data.

IPL Tops Google Search

IPL has yet again taken centre stage, with fans and followers actively searching for various matches. For instance, the "KKR vs LSG" match witnessed a search volume of over 5 million, marking a peak of 1,000% on Thursday, April 9.

Similarly, the "RR vs MI" as well as "GT vs DC" matches had a search volume of over 2 million.

How did it all start? The IPL began its journey with the maiden season in 2008 and went on to completely change how T20 cricket across the globe. Over the past 18 years, the tournament has become a massive success.

The credit for the start of IPL as well as its success goes to Lalit Modi, who was the founder of the tournament and even served as the first chairman and league commissioner of the marquee event until 2010.

Recently, former India player Saba Karim told Doordarshan Sports that Modi had initially pitched the idea of franchise-based T20 cricket back in 1997-98. "There was no concept of T20s back then, it was primarily ODIs," NDTV quoted Karim. as saying. 

He further revealed that a few Bengal players had agreed to be a part of the concept, but the idea just didn't materialise at that time.

Western Disturbance

People in Delhi-NCR and other nearby regions are witnessing a change in weather conditions, which is being attributed to the shifting wind patterns as well as the influence of a western disturbance. It is likely to bring intermittent cloud cover along with isolated rainfall over the national capital region.

Searches related to western disturbance have crossed the 5 million mark on Google, witnessing a 800% jump a few days ago.

US-Iran War

Searches related to West Asia conflict increased this week as US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire in strikes on Iran. The pause was directly linked to the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway that allows the passage of nearly one-fifth of the world's oil and gas on a daily basis.

Iran-related searches on the platform crossed the 500K mark and witnessed a 200% jump in trends.

CBSE 10th Results

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to announce the results for the Class 10 board examination (Session 1) for 2026 by mid-April. The earlier release is being considered because of the subsequent board examination for Class 10 set for May.

Nearly 25 lakh students have been eagerly awaiting for the latest updates from the board, with "CBSE 10th results 2026" being among the top trends on Google. It has reached a search volume of 200K and witnessed 1,000% jump.

However, CBSE has not yet provided an official date. Last year, the CBSE unveiled the results for both Class 10 and Class 12 on May 13.

Karnataka 12th Board Result 2026

This week, the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) announced the results for 2nd PUC (Class 12) for 2026. In total, 6,32,200 students appeared across all streams. Out of these, 5,46,698 students passed, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 86.48%. 

On Google, searches related to "karresults nic in 2026" reached over 500K mark and saw 800% jump on trends.
