The 2025 Oscar nominations across 23 categories were announced Thursday morning by Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang, live from the Film Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
Notably, Anuja, also backed by Guneet Monga, received nomination for Best Live Action Short Film at the Oscars 2025. Monga previously won an Oscar for The Elephant Whisperers at the 95th Academy Awards in 2023.
Anuja was produced in collaboration with the Salaam Baalak Trust, a non-profit organisation founded by Mira Nair's family to support street and working children. Priyanka Chopra and Anita Bhatia served as executive producers, while Mindy Kaling and Oscar winner Guneet Monga were among the producers who joined the team to amplify the film's impact.
Directed by Adam J Graves, the film features Ananya Shanbhag, Sajda Pathan, and Nagesh Bhosle. It narrates the story of two sisters struggling to find joy and opportunity in a world intent on their exploitation and exclusion.

January 23, 2025The announcement of the 2025 Academy Awards nominees, originally set for Jan.17, was delayed twice amid the Los Angeles wildfires, which have left at least 28 people dead with more than 14,000 structures destroyed and nearly 40,000 acres burned.
The Academy also canceled its annual Oscar Nominees Luncheon and said that it would donate the $250,000 it planned to spend on the event to wildfire relief efforts.
The 97th Academy Awards, to be hosted by Conan O'Brien, will air live on Mar. 2 from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Indians would be able to watch the Oscars live be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
