iPhone 18 Pro Set To Do A First; All You Wanted To Know
With the brand gradually transitioning away from Qualcomm processors, the iPhone 18 Pro could be the first to feature the Apple C2 modem.

Apple is expected to introduce several new features in the iPhone 18 Pro models. Rumours about the device have already started and it has made the tech world buzz with excitement. With Apple gradually looking to transition away from Qualcomm processors, the iPhone 18 Pro could be the first to feature the Apple C2 modem, according to analyst Jeff Pu. It will be the next-generation successor to the C1 which is already available in the iPhone 16e. The iPhone 18 Pro with the C2 modem is likely to offer a smoother experience while improving power efficiency. It is also likely to gain mmWave support in the United States.
Notably, the iPhone 17 Air, "the thinnest iPhone ever", which is slated to be released later this year, may also house the same C1 modem.
Do note that Apple keeps all details about its iPhones secret and most of the information is revealed through leaks by analysts. Apple reveals details only after these iPhones are launched just like it happened recently during the iPhone 16e launch.
Apple iPhone 18 Pro: What To Expect?
Besides the processor, Apple may also modify the camera setup in the iPhone 18 Pro series. The brand could collaborate with Samsung to introduce a three-layer stacked camera sensor, as reported by DigiTimes. The device is likely to come with a technology called "PD-TR-Logic", which will make its camera more responsive along with reduced grain in photos and increased dynamic range.
In July last year, an inside source, known as "Jukanlosreve", claimed that Apple would begin offering Samsung’s 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera sensors in 2026 when the iPhone 18 series would be launched. The upcoming devices may have pin-hole selfie cameras, similar to the latest Android smartphones like Google's Pixel 9 and Samsung's Galaxy S25.
Meanwhile, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple would also roll out the feature of variable aperture in the main 48-megapixel Fusion camera on both iPhone 18 Pro models.
The outstanding models such as the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro come with a fixed aperture of ƒ/1.78. In iPhone 18 Pro, customers would be able to customise the aperture manually.
Display industry analyst Ross Young, in April 2023, claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro models would have under-display Face ID. However, in May last year, Young revealed the roll-out was delayed and the feature might be introduced in the iPhone 18 Pro models.
To improve the overall performance, Apple may opt for TSMC's third-generation 3nm process to develop the A20 Pro chip for the iPhone 18 series. The technology will also enable a tighter integration of the processor’s unified memory and Neural Engine.
