For Most Indian Executives, Cybersecurity Is Main Obstacle To AI Adoption
Less than one in 10 organisations currently have governance structures necessary to ensure trustworthy AI.

About 92% of Indian executives find security vulnerabilities, including hacking and cyber threats, as a primary concern in artificial intelligence adoption, while 91% express concern about privacy risks related to sensitive data in AI usage, according to a report by Deloitte Asia Pacific.
Almost nine in 10 (89%) executives highlight complexities resulting from uncertain regulations, citing evolving compliance requirements, as a challenge towards AI integration. These findings highlight the need for a robust cybersecurity framework, privacy protections and clear regulations to manage risks and instill trust in AI adoption.
Based on a survey of senior leaders across the Asia-Pacific region, the report reveals that less than one in 10 organisations currently have governance structures necessary to ensure trustworthy AI.
Despite growing adoption, Indian executives face challenges in implementing and understanding AI. Nearly 50% cited technology integration difficulties, reflecting struggles to align AI with existing systems. Furthermore, 35% highlighted insufficient knowledge of AI's potential, emphasising the need for upskilling and awareness. Additionally, 32% of Indian executives identified regulatory, legal, ethical, and associated risks as key barriers.

At the same time, 60% of the workforce in surveyed organisations reportedly possess the skills and capabilities required to use AI solutions ethically and legally. Furthermore, 72% of organisations are addressing the skills gap by hiring individuals with expertise to ensure ethical and compliant use of AI.
Indian executives are also optimistic about the transformative potential of effective AI governance, with 63% emphasising that it would lead to higher levels of trust in the outputs or results generated by AI solutions. Additionally, 60% held that robust governance can enhance their organisation’s reputation among customers, while 57% expect it to drive greater adoption of AI solutions due to increased trust.
