ChatGPT ‘Study Mode’ Launched In India: How Students Can Use Free Multilingual, Interactive Learning Tool?
Study mode moves away from simply providing answers and instead guides users through solutions one step at a time.

OpenAI has launched a new ‘study mode’ feature in ChatGPT, promising a more interactive learning experience for users. Instead of simply providing answers, study mode helps users tackle problems step by step, encouraging active participation and deeper understanding through guided questions and personalised feedback.
This feature is now accessible to all logged-in users across countries, including India, under Free, Plus, Pro and Team plans. OpenAI is planning to extend availability to ChatGPT Edu users in the upcoming weeks.
OpenAI announced the study mode feature in a YouTube video titled “Introducing ChatGPT Study Mode.”
How Indian Students Can Use New Features
To use the feature, students need to select “Study and learn” from the tools section in ChatGPT and ask a question.
“When students engage with study mode, they’re met with guiding questions that calibrate responses to their objective and skill level to help them build deeper understanding. Study mode is designed to be engaging and interactive, and to help students learn something, not just finish something,” OpenAI said in a statement.
The study mode leverages custom system instructions developed in consultation with teachers, scientists, and education experts. These instructions have been designed to nurture more effective learning by promoting active engagement, regulating cognitive effort, supporting metacognitive skills and self-reflection, as well as sparking curiosity.
Importantly, users also receive personalised, constructive feedback as they work through problems.

Personalised Assistance: Lessons are adapted according to each user’s abilities. Questions assessing skill level and knowledge from earlier interactions ensure materials remain relevant and challenging.
Progress Monitoring: Users are offered quizzes and more open-ended questions to reinforce learning and cultivate the ability to apply concepts in unfamiliar scenarios.
Adaptable Usage: Study mode can be effortlessly switched on or off at any time during a chat. It allows learners to customise their experience as their needs shift.
