Apple is set to integrate artificial intelligence more extensively into the iPhone's native Camera app with the release of iOS 27. The company plans to introduce a dedicated Siri mode that will appear as a new option alongside the existing photo and video modes, according to a new report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The update will move the Visual Intelligence feature, which is currently accessed through the Camera Control button, into the Camera app itself, giving the feature more visibility and prominence within the iPhone's interface.

Gurman suggests that the new Siri mode represents an upgraded version of Visual Intelligence. While currently it links to services like ChatGPT and Google Image Search, Apple is “redesigning the experience with a new shutter button styled after the Apple Intelligence logo.” This will be part of the upcoming iOS 27 software update.

Users will still be able to launch Visual Intelligence through the existing Camera Control button, but Apple is expecting that embedding it within the main Camera app will make it visible to a wider set of iPhone users.

The enhanced Siri mode will build upon the current Visual Intelligence by adding new functions. For instance, iOS 27 is expected to let users scan nutrition labels on food packaging to automatically log dietary details or capture and save contact information from business cards or similar sources by scanning them.

Image analysis features are also anticipated, potentially enabling deeper interactions with ChatGPT for asking questions about anything captured through the camera, along with improved tools for tasks like dietary tracking.

Gurman further indicates that Siri's control over the camera will be refined, making it simpler for users to switch between modes such as photo, video, and portrait using voice commands. These developments are part of Apple's preparations ahead of its 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference scheduled for June, where it is expected to unveil iOS 27 updates.

In addition, WWDC 2026 may feature announcements related to new Siri-centric hardware, including smart glasses, a wearable pendant-style device, and refreshed AirPods capable of better understanding and interpreting the user's surroundings, the report noted.
