Apple iPhone 18 To Be Priced Higher Than Usual? Blame The New Chipset
Rumours are swirling that the iPhone 18 will be powered by Apple's next-gen A20 chip, built using TSMC’s 2nm process.

If you’re saving up for the iPhone 18, you may have to save a little extra. Several industry reports indicate that Apple's upcoming flagship will have a much higher price than usual. And the reason? A brand-new chip under the hood.
Rumours are swirling that the iPhone 18 will be powered by Apple's next-gen A20 chip, built using TSMC’s 2nm process. In simpler words, this is a big leap in chip technology and that, in turn, means that it will be costly.
The good news for users is that smaller “nm” (nanometer) numbers mean faster and more efficient performance. Making these chips is expensive, and that cost could be passed on to customers.
Well-known analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu share that Apple could soon launch this 2nm chip. This shift has been confirmed even by sources close to the Chinese supply chain, further adding weight to the buzz and greatly increasing expectations.
Why Does Apple’s New Chipset Matter?
At the moment, Apple sells devices with 3nm chips. The 2nm chip is expected to provide even greater speed, better battery life and massive power savings. But manufacturing them isn’t cheap. Apple’s requirements are so ambitious that TSMC has to build more factories just to start dealing with them.
And that’s not all. There may also be some political factors in play. According to reports, the U.S. is considering new tariffs on semiconductor imports, which could affect Apple’s supply chain, and are expected to add to the overall cost. Apple has found ways to adapt, like shipping iPhones to India directly, but the pricing question remains unresolved, at least for now.
This means that the iPhone 18 could be loaded with sophisticated tech, but it could also be priced higher than usual. Until Apple confirms anything, it’s best we wait and take all the leaks with a pinch of salt.
