A Reddit user claiming to be an L5 software development engineer at Amazon said they received an email notifying them their role had been eliminated as part of organisational changes. The user said they worked in Fulfillment by Amazon in Bellevue and had been in the role for around one and a half years. After receiving the mail, the user said rumours of May layoffs "seem to be substantiated". The email was signed by Renee Banks, Amazon People Experience & Technology.
According to the email shared in the Reddit post, Amazon said it had conducted "a thorough review" of its organisation, priorities and future focus areas before making the "hard business decision" to eliminate some roles on the team.
"Unfortunately, your role is being eliminated as part of these changes and your employment will end after a notification period," the email stated, according to the post.
The email said the affected employee would no longer be required to perform work on Amazon's behalf and would continue receiving full pay and benefits for the next 90 days. It also mentioned a non-working period with full pay and benefits, a severance package offer, transitional benefits, external job placement support and 12 months of complimentary access to AWS Skill Builder.

The employee was also told that their badge access had been restricted and that Security could assist them in exiting the building if they were in an Amazon office.
The email further said the employee would continue to have access to internal email, Chime, and A to Z on their personal device, and primary mode of communication would be retained through email.
The email concluded with "appreciating" that this was a difficult update to receive and that they had shared answers to some of the most common questions related to pay, benefits, support resources, and next steps. "Remember that caring team members are ready to assist you 24/7 through MyHR or the Employee Assistance Portal (EAP), offering free and confidential support, both available within A to Z," concluded the email.
