T20 World Cup 2026: Hasaranga To Bracewell — Injury List Grows Across Teams

Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell are the latest to be sidelined

The list of the players getting ruled out from the ongoing T20 World Cup keeps getting longer. Sri Lankan ace spinner Waninudu Hasaranga and  New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell will be taking no further part in the tournament after suffering injuries. While Hasaranga picked up a  left hamstring injury during his team's match against Ireland on Feb 8., Bracewell injured his calf while warming up for New Zealand's game against UAE on Tuesday. 

Other players who have been injured

Italy, who are playing their first Cricket World Cup, were dealt with with a blow in their first match as skipper Wayne Madsen dislocated his shoulder while playing against Scotland. He is unlikely to feature in the team's remaining matches. Further updates on Madsen's injury is awaited.

India too had to cope up with injury as the team's pacer Harshit Rana got injured ahead of the team's tournament opener against USA. He was replaced in the squad by Mohammed Siraj. Moreover, Abhishek Sharma was hospitalised after suffering a stomach infection. 

Australia lost its pace duo of Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins in the days leading into the tournament. While Cummins was dealing with a back issue, Hazlewood picked up a hamstring injury.  While Ben Dwarshuis replaced Cummins in the squad, Cricket Australia are yet to announce the player who will take the spot left vacant by Hazlewood. The 2021 champions are thus playing with a trimmed squad.

In the build up of the World Cup, New Zealand lost its pace gun Adam Milne as he suffered a  a hamstring injury. He was replaced by Kyle Jamieson.

South Africa were also rocked by the injuries as  Donovan Ferreira and Tony de Zorzi had to withdraw their names from the squad following injuries. While suffered an injury to his left clavicle, de Zorzi failed to recover in time from  a tear in his right hamstring. Their spots were taken by  Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs.

Afghanistan are playing in the World Cup without Naveen-ul-Haq. The pacer was picked a stress fracture in his right shoulder and was replaced by  Zia-ur-Rahman Sharifi.
