MS Dhoni Inducted Into ICC's Hall Of Fame — Here Are Other Iconic Indian Cricketers In The List

Dhoni played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is for India and remains one of the greatest captains to have led the country.

Former India men’s cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame during a ceremony held in London on June 9. He became the 11th Indian cricketer — and the ninth male player from India — to receive this special honour from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

This recognition arrives nearly five years after Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket. His last appearance for India was during the semi-final of the 2019 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup. He announced his retirement on Aug. 15, 2020.

Diana Edulji

One of the pioneers of women’s cricket in India, Diana Edulji, was the first Indian woman player to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. With a playing career that lasted 17 years, she also played an instrumental role in building one of the most dominant domestic sides in Indian women’s cricket.

Neetu David

Neetu David, whose international career spanned from 1995 to 2008, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2024. She became the second Indian woman cricketer to receive the honour. David played a crucial role in shaping the Indian women’s bowling unit during her time.

Virender Sehwag

Inducted in 2023, Sehwag had an explosive international career from 1999 to 2015. A key contributor to India’s 2011 World Cup victory, he redefined aggressive batting at the top order. Sehwag finished with over 17,000 runs across formats in a 14-year career.

Vinoo Mankad

Inducted into the coveted list in 2021, Vinoo Mankad represented India between 1946 and 1959. Mankad amassed 2,109 runs and claimed 162 wickets in 44 Test matches. His most iconic performance came against New Zealand in 1956, where he scored 231 runs and was part of a record-breaking 413-run opening partnership.

Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2019. Having represented India from 1989 to 2013, Tendulkar’s record-breaking career includes 100 international centuries, 15,921 Test runs and 18,426 ODI runs — achievements that remain unmatched.

Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid, known for his impeccable technique and patience at the crease, was inducted in 2018. His international career, which spanned from 1996 to 2012, saw him accumulate 13,288 Test runs and 10,889 runs in ODIs.

Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble, one of India’s greatest bowlers, was inducted into the list of legendary cricketers in 2015. Kumble, who played from 1990 to 2008, remains India’s highest wicket-taker in both Tests (619) and ODIs (334). He is also one of only two bowlers in the history of Test cricket to take all 10 wickets in a single innings — a feat he achieved against Pakistan in 1999.

Kapil Dev

India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, was inducted in 2010. A mainstay from 1978 to 1994, he is regarded as India’s greatest fast-bowling all-rounder. Kapil Dev scored 5,248 runs and took 434 wickets in Tests.

Bishan Singh Bedi

Bishan Singh Bedi, who played for India between 1966 and 1979, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009. With 266 Test wickets at an average of 28.71, Bedi is celebrated for his artistry as a slow left-arm orthodox bowler.

Sunil Gavaskar

Inducted in 2009, Sunil Gavaskar was India’s batting backbone from 1971 to 1987. He became the first player in the world to cross the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket, finishing his career with 10,122 runs, 34 centuries and an average of 51.12.
