The FIFA World Cup has grown to a record 48 teams for the 2026 edition, with 42 nations already booking their spots across all six continental bodies: AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa), Concacaf (North/Central America and Caribbean), Conmebol (South America), OFC (Oceania), and UEFA (Europe).
For the six final slots at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 22 countries are in the fray, with four earmarked for UEFA's playoffs and the remaining pair decided through FIFA's intercontinental playoffs.
The 48 slots for the 2026 FIFA World Cup — covering the 42 confirmed qualifiers and six playoff placeholders — have been sorted into four pots of 12, based on FIFA's latest world rankings, with co-hosts Canada, Mexico and the United States locked into Pot 1 alongside the elite-ranked sides, while all playoff victors land in Pot 4.
Pot 1: Canada, Mexico, USA, Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany
Pot 2: Croatia, Morocco, Colombia, Uruguay, Switzerland, Japan, Senegal, Iran, Korea Republic, Ecuador, Austria, Australia
Pot 3: Norway, Panama, Egypt, Algeria, Scotland, Paraguay, Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa
Pot 4: Jordan, Cabo Verde, Ghana, Curaçao, Haiti, New Zealand, 4 x UEFA playoff winners, 2 x FIFA inter-continental playoff winners
The selection process will start by placing every team from Pot 1 into groups A through L. Following that, the draw will proceed sequentially with Pots 2, 3, and 4.
