The 8th Pay Commission is set to hold fresh rounds of consultation meetings with employee and pensioner organisations across major Indian cities in September 2026 as part of its nationwide stakeholder outreach. The meetings will be held in Jaipur, Chennai, Puducherry and Chandigarh.
According to official notifications, the commission will hold discussions in Jaipur on August 31 and September 1, followed by meetings in Chennai on September 7 and 8. The panel will visit Puducherry on September 9 and Chandigarh from September 16 to 18.
The commission also plans to visit railway departments under the Central Railway Zone in Mumbai to gather insights into the working conditions of railway employees. Eligible unions and associations were required to request appointments by August 18 for the Jaipur, Chennai and Puducherry meetings, while the deadline for the Chandigarh meetings was August 25.

The consultations are part of the commission's broader stakeholder outreach and will provide employee and pensioner organisations an opportunity to present their views and demands on pay, allowances, pensions and other service conditions.
While the commission has not issued a formal agenda for the meetings, discussions are expected to include long-standing demands related to pay structure rationalisation. The revision of the fitment factor, a key multiplier used to determine basic pay, is also likely to remain a major area of interest among employees.
The 8th Pay Commission was constituted on November 3, 2025, and has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations. The commission is required to submit its final report by May 2027. The ongoing consultations are therefore significant for central government employees and pensioners, who are awaiting clarity on revised salaries, allowances and pensions.
