The Indian government on Thursday said it had neutralised a Pakistani air defence system in Lahore, hours after intercepting a wave of drones and missiles targeting military installations across northern and western India. The Ministry of Defence said the response was precise and proportionate to the attempted attacks carried out by Pakistan overnight.

The Pakistani strikes targeted Indian military locations including Jammu, Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bhuj and others. These attacks were intercepted by India’s air defence and counter-UAS systems. Debris recovered from multiple locations confirmed the attempted strikes.

This marks the second major military action between the two countries back-to-back, following Indian airstrikes on terror camps inside Pakistan early Wednesday under ‘Operation Sindoor.’

India had conducted military strikes early on Wednesday targeting nine locations across Pakistan, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, Tehra Kalan, Sialkot, Bhimber, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. Indian government described the operation as a “precise and restrained response” to the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where 28 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed by in a terrorist attack.

Missile Attack Intercepted

Between the night of May 7-8, Pakistan launched a coordinated attack using drones and missiles aimed at military targets across Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj. These were neutralised by Indian air defence systems.

The Ministry said Indian forces intercepted the incoming attacks and are now recovering debris from several sites, confirming Pakistani involvement.

Air Defence Neutralised

In response, Indian forces struck air defence radars and systems at several locations in Pakistan. A Pakistani air defence system in Lahore was among those hit. The Indian military said its response matched the domain and intensity of Pakistan’s actions.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has increased mortar and heavy artillery fire across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar and Rajouri. The shelling killed 16 civilians, including three women and five children.

India said it responded to halt the firing and reaffirmed its commitment to non-escalation—provided Pakistan stops its attacks.
