IITs Lead QS World University Rankings In India; MIT Tops Global List

IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras have also made significant strides, securing the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

In the latest QS World University Ranking 2025, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) Bombay and Delhi have secured positions within the top 150 globally. IIT Bombay, which held the top spot last year among Indian universities, has made a significant leap, climbing from 149th to 118th position this year. Meanwhile, IIT Delhi has also shown significant progress, ascending from 197th to 150th place.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continues its reign as the world's premier institute for the 13th consecutive year, maintaining its stellar reputation in academia.

Overall, 61% of Indian universities have seen an improvement in their rankings.

In India, the rankings remain dominated by IITs, with IIT Bombay retaining its lead, followed closely by IIT Delhi and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras have also made significant strides, securing the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

On the global stage, Imperial College London has surged to the second position, while Harvard University and the University of Oxford jointly claim the third spot. However, the University of Cambridge and Stanford University have experienced slight declines in their rankings compared to the previous year.

ETH Zurich continues to maintain its stronghold as continental Europe's top institution, while the National University of Singapore (NUS) and University College London (UCL) retain their positions among the top 10 globally.

The compilation of the 2025 QS World University Rankings involved a rigorous analysis of millions of research papers and citations, data from thousands of institutions worldwide, and insights from academics and employers, reaffirming the credibility and rigor of the rankings.

The QS World University Rankings for 2025 examined 17 million research papers, 176 million citations, and data from 5,600 institutions globally. Additionally, the rankings integrated perspectives from 175,798 academics and 105,476 employers, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation process.
