Cyclone Montha Live Tracker: IMD Issues Red Alert, Extremely Heavy Rainfall In Gujarat Coastal Andhra Pradesh

Montha is expected to keep moving west-northwest over the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours.

The cyclonic storm Montha gained strength over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department said on Monday. The storm is about 600 km east-southeast of Chennai and 680 km south-southeast of Kakinada. It is also 710 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam, 790 km west of Port Blair and 850 km south of Gopalpur. Cyclone Montha Live Updates: IMD Issues Red Alert, Extremely Heavy Rainfall In Saurashtra And Coastal Andhra Pradesh Among Other Updates

The IMD issued a red alert, signalling extremely heavy rainfall for Saurashtra in Kutch district of Gujarat and coastal Andhra Pradesh. It also issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall in east Rajashtan, Gujarat, Odisha Tamil Nadu and Rayalseema, Andhra Pradesh.

This along with further weather projections were posted to a video on social media platform 'X' by the department.

Cyclone Montha Live Updates: IMD Covers Cyclone Effects, Safety Measures

The India Meterological Department made a post on 'X' to share its projections on what the cyclone will damage and how to proetect against ti. It predicts damage to thatched huts, minor damage to power and communication lines due to fallen trees amd major damage to katcha and minor damage to pucca roads.

It also projected minor damage to papaya and banana trees and orchards. It also projects sea water inundation in low lying areas after erosion of kutcha embankments.

The IMD recommended total suspension of fishing operations. Coastal hutment dwellers to be moved to safer places. People in affected areas are advised to remain indoors.


Cyclone Montha Live Updates: Cyclone To Intensify Into Severe Cyclonic Storm On Morning Of Oct. 28

Cyclone 'Montha' is projected to move north-northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by morning of Oct. 28 according to IMD. Continuing to move further north-northwestwards, it is expected to cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during evening/night of Oct. 28 as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph, according to IMD.


Cyclone Montha Live Updates: Fishers From Andhra Village Request Food Assistance

Due to Cyclone Montha intensifying over the Bay of Bengal, fishermen in Girupuram village of Machilipatnam have been told to stay ashore via government orders restricting fishing activities.

Up to 180 families who depend entirely on fishing for their livelihood urged the government to provide immediate food assistance until the cyclone subsides.

Cyclone Montha Live Updates: Cyclone Makes Landfall; Coastal Andhra Braces For Impact

The landfall of Cyclone Montha, which is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm, has begun, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority Managing Director Prakhar Jain said on Monday. Coastal districts are experiencing rain and strong gales, he added.
