Indian equity benchmarks extended declines to trade at day's low. The BSE Sensex fell as much as 0.2% or 163 points to 83,570, while the NSE Nifty 50 fell 0.16% to 25,778. The broader markets, represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index, also traded lower, led by the declines in GE Vernova, Jindal Saw and Patym.
Thirteen out of 15 sectoral gauges compiled by the NSE traded lower, led by the NSE Nifty Realty Index's 0.6% declines. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty IT Index was the top sectoral gainer, up 1.04%. The market breadth was tilted in favour of buyers. About 1,697 stocks advanced and 1,656 shares declined on BSE.
Elsewhere in Asia, South Korea's Kospi touched a fresh record high on Thursday as markets in the region followed gains on Wall Street. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.1% in early trade, while Japan's Nikkei 225 and Topix were higher. Hong Kong and mainland China markets remained closed for the Lunar New Year break.
Stock Market Live: NCC Recovers From 52-Week Low; NHAI Bars Unit From Tenders
- NCC fell nearly 10% to a 52-week low of Rs 135 on the NSE before paring losses and briefly turning positive.
- The move came after NCC said its step-down subsidiary, O B Infrastructure Ltd., was debarred by NHAI from participating in its tenders for two years, effective Feb. 17.
- NCC said it is reviewing the order and that there is no impact on its existing order book or ongoing projects, adding it cannot quantify any financial impact at present.

- Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said India will play a key role in the future of AI, speaking at the AI Impact Summit.

- He said the company wants to work with India on AI testing, safety and future development frameworks, and that Anthropic is expanding its business footprint in the country.

- MCX shares rose as much as 3.8% to Rs 243 after the exchange said it will withdraw an additional 3% margin on gold futures and 7% on silver futures from Thursday.
- The withdrawal applies to all contracts and variants linked to gold and silver derivatives.
- MCX gold April futures rose 0.86% to Rs 1,52,715 per 10 grams on Wednesday, while New York gold futures were up 0.89% at $4,921 per ounce.

- The brokerage said risks linked to Coforge’s Sabre contract are manageable, even as it flagged Sabre’s financial vulnerabilities, including leverage and solvency risk.
- CLSA said Coforge has taken steps such as credit insurance, and that the Encora acquisition may reduce Sabre’s share of revenue exposure from about 6% to 4.9%, as per the note.
