It was previously reported that exchanges have restricted foreign individuals from accessing exchange websites due to security concerns.

Indian exchanges and other market infrastructure institutions are actively monitoring the environment for any kind of cyber threats, as per several people in the know who NDTV Profit spoke to. This is being done during the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.
The exchanges have to stay vigilant 24x7, in enhanced vigilance mode, a senior official from one of the exchanges told NDTV Profit.
Two people from Securities and Exchange Board of India mentioned that most of the work in such situations usually takes place on the exchanges front, but is basic mock drill. Advise against misinformation and cyber attacks has been given, they said.
Another person said the market infrastructure institutions have also recently held discussions on preparedness for such incidents. Additionally, both the exchanges have issued advisories for their trading members.

Exchange Advisory
Marked under the Traffic Light Protocol AMBER classification — which restricts dissemination to a need-to-know basis — the NSE advisory urges members to maintain heightened vigilance and implement robust cyber safety measures.
According to the advisory dated May 7, 2025, NSE has recommended that all members operate in a round-the-clock enhanced alert mode, with 24x7 monitoring by Security Operations Centers and Network Operations Centers.
The exchange has advised that critical systems and networks be continuously reviewed for any signs of intrusion or malicious activity. Trading members are expected to maintain nearly full manpower availability to ensure rapid threat detection and response.
Another major focus of the advisory is data protection. NSE has asked members to maintain encrypted offline back-ups of all critical infrastructure and business data, with geographically dispersed storage to ensure continuity in case of an attack.
It has advised organisations to implement Multi-Factor Authentication, restrict admin privileges, and disable non-essential user accounts and third-party integrations.
NSE also called for immediate review and application of software patches to eliminate known vulnerabilities, and encouraged proactive threat hunting to detect and remove any persistent threats.
