Filmmaker Karan Johar recently had a memorable fan moment when he met Hollywood stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in Tokyo during promotions for The Devil Wears Prada 2. The interaction quickly turned into a fun mix of fashion talk, admiration and light-hearted conversation.
A video shared by 20th Century Studios captured the trio chatting, with the discussion naturally moving towards fashion, in line with the theme of the film. During the conversation, Anne playfully asked Karan, “Do you judge their shoes?" He instantly replied, “All the time!"—leaving Anne laughing.
What followed was a special moment for the filmmaker. Meryl Streep, known for her iconic role in The Devil Wears Prada, took notice of Karan's outfit, especially his footwear. Approving his style, she said, “You have the perfect shoes on today!" Karan was seen wearing Prada shoes, making the compliment even more fitting.
Karan took to his social media account to share his excitement about meeting the two stars. In a heartfelt post, he described the moment as a dream come true and expressed his deep admiration for Meryl Streep. He wrote, “This is not a caption. This is a confession. I am singularly obsessed and inspired by the unmatchable brilliance of Meryl Streep. In many ways she has been my guru in the art of acting & portraying characters across cinema!!”

He also revealed just how much the film means to him, adding, “I have watched The Devil Wears Prada no less than 47 times. I have quoted it at dinner tables, in edit suites and in board meetings (no kidding!)”
Talking about meeting them in person, Karan admitted he was overwhelmed. “So when I tell you that standing next to HER & them today, I felt the ground shift, please believe me. I tried very hard to be calm and composed but here's another confession – my knees were RATTLING!" he shared.
Despite his nervousness, Karan said both Meryl and Anne were warm and welcoming, making the experience even more special. He added that the moment is something he will always cherish.
Directed by David Frankel, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to release on May 1, bringing back the world of fashion, drama and iconic characters that made the original film a global favourite.
