While the nepotism debate in Bollywood often leads to defensive answers from actors, Junaid Khan chose a far more direct approach. The actor openly admitted that his surname and family background have helped him get opportunities in the film industry, saying he sees no reason to deny it.
Speaking during an interview with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Junaid addressed the conversation around nepotism and acknowledged that being the son of superstar Aamir Khan has benefited his career. "The word ‘nepotism' doesn't irritate me because it's true. I get a lot of work because I'm Aamir Khan's son," Junaid said candidly.
The actor also pointed out that despite his recent films not performing strongly at the box office, he continues to receive offers. According to him, the industry's casting decisions are often driven more by visibility and market value than by choosing the actor best suited for a role.
During the conversation, Junaid explained that producers and studios are primarily focused on selling a film. He believes actors who are easier to market naturally get more attention from filmmakers, even if they may not necessarily fit a character perfectly.
“They are not looking at which actor suits the character best, but rather which actor can be marketed more easily,” he said.
At the same time, Junaid clarified that he does not view the issue as a straightforward insider-versus-outsider debate. Instead, he argued that the bigger concern lies in prioritising commercial value over suitability.
“For me, it's not an insider versus outsider debate. It's about not casting someone just because you can sell them. Cast someone who is right for the film,” the actor added.
Junaid was last seen in the romantic drama Ek Din, where he starred opposite Sai Pallavi. Directed by Sunil Pandey, the film received mixed reviews and failed to make a major impact at the box office.
