During bilateral talks between PM Modi and Xi Jinping on sidelines of BRICS Summit, India and China commit to fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable boundary settlement.
 

Speaking on unilateral tariff measure, Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary (Economic Relations), MEA said, "I would like to say that on this matter, unilateral coercive measures, unilateral tariff measures, unilateral measures, unilateral environmental measures, I think BRICS has had a very consistent position on this theme. We have taken a very clear position in the BRICS that any measure which is contrary to international law, we feel that all measures which affect trade should be in line with international law..."

During the bilateral meeting with PM Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping said, "In the face of a complex international landscape marked by intertwined changes and challenges, China and India, as the world's two most populous countries and important members of the Global South, shoulder significant responsibilities."

He added, "Both sides should keep the future of humanity in mind and the well-being of their peoples at heart, and work together to advance high-quality cooperation within the greater BRICS framework. We should advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive, mutually beneficial form of economic globalisation, injecting more positive energy into the promotion of world peace, stability, development and prosperity."

Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary (Economic Relations), MEA said, "...Leaders discussed impact of ongoing conflicts, economic uncertainties and underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of differences..."

Expressing worries over the Middle East conflict, New Delhi Declaration said, "We express deep concern over the continued escalation of tensions in Middle East/West Asia and, recalling our respective national positions, call for exercising maximum restraint, as well as avoiding actions that could further aggravate the situation. Furthermore, we urge to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations in their entirety and interconnectedness, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the States."

Urging dialogue, it added, "we encourage increasing efforts, through dialogue and diplomacy, towards a longterm understanding that will contribute to lasting peace, security and stability in the region. We stress the need to work together to maintain smooth flow of global trade, supply chains and energy, in accordance with applicable international law."

In his concluding remarks at the BRICS Summit, PM Narendra Modi said, "Alongside the diversity of our views, our shared commitment to BRICS cooperation has also clearly emerged. Today’s discussion makes it evident that the changing world cannot be steered by outdated institutions; reforms are essential in representation, responsiveness, and rule-making. We also emphasized that the Global South must have equal participation in the development of future technologies and the rules governing them. The gap between decisions and their outcomes must be bridged through partnership and collective action.

He added, "The New Delhi Declaration adopted today provides a clear direction for our shared resolve. It is now our responsibility to translate these resolutions into tangible results. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your valuable contributions, constructive spirit, and commitment as the BRICS Chair."

Calling for UNSC reforms, PM Modi said, "In formulating this roadmap, we must focus on three key aspects: Representation, Responsiveness, and Rule-making. Regarding representation, I would like to state that reform of the UN Security Council can no longer be postponed. Negotiations on this matter must be linked to a definite timeframe and clear outcomes. Similarly, voting power, leadership positions, and policy priorities within financial institutions must align with today's economic realities. Countries that drive global economic growth should also play an appropriate role in shaping global economic governance..."

At the BRICS Summit 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged to establish 'Seafarers' Emergency Support Network, while calling for their safety.

 "... Seafarers make a massive contribution to global trade, yet they often find themselves lacking support during difficult times. I propose that we establish a 'Seafarers' Emergency Support Network.' This would connect the maritime authorities and diplomatic missions of relevant countries, facilitating assistance with distress alerts, medical aid, family notifications, and evacuations," PM Modi said.

During the BRICS Summit 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Today, the Global South stands in the front row of global crises but in the back row of decision-making. We must transform this 'pyramid of privilege' into a 'platform of partnership'—one where every nation has a voice, every member has a stake, and the development of humanity lies at the heart of every endeavor. To this end, I propose that we jointly formulate 10 proposals for global governance reform, aiming to shape them into a BRICS reform roadmap by the time of the next Summit."

 Suspense mounted on Saturday over whether leaders at the two-day BRICS Summit in New Delhi will reach a consensus on a joint declaration, amid sharp divisions between Iran and the UAE over the West Asia conflict, even as India works to shield the Global South from growing geopolitical turmoil.

Multiple diplomatic sources told PTI that hectic consultations are underway to arrive at a consensus on the thorny issue, but added that negotiations could go down to the wire as both Iran and the UAE harden their positions.

BRICS finance ministers and central bank governors stepped up calls for a bigger voice for emerging economies in global financial institutions as the expanded grouping seeks to build greater economic resilience amid trade fragmentation and geopolitical tensions.

Chinese President Xi Jinping landed in the national capital on Saturday for a two-day trip to attend the BRICS Summit, marking his first visit to India in seven years.

President Xi's visit to New Delhi follows a series of recent high-level exchanges, including the Special Representative dialogue in Beijing between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, even as concerns linger over aggressive Chinese military posturing along the Arunachal Pradesh sector.

The Chinese leader is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising government officials and top business leaders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim, focusing on boosting bilateral cooperation in sectors such as energy, defence, trade and investment. Anwar is in New Delhi to attend the BRICS summit.

"Building on Prime Minister Modi's visit to Malaysia in February 2026, the leaders reviewed the progress in bilateral cooperation across a range of areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, semiconductors, infrastructure, digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism and people-to-people ties," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on social media.

The leaders exchanged views on key regional and global issues of mutual interest, he said.

Jaipur-based Arun Signature Store has created the tableware specifically for the dishes that will be served to the guests. The store says the collection was designed exclusively for the summit menu, with all the pieces silver-plated especially for the occasion.

The Delhi Police advised commuters to plan journeys, use the Metro whenever possible, follow designated diversion routes and comply with traffic personnel's directions to avoid inconvenience. Emergency and essential-service vehicles will receive priority passage.

The advisory map marks alternative routes in blue, controlled roads in orange, prohibited areas in purple and diversion points with red stars, indicating the stretches where commuters may face restrictions or diversions during the summit.

Key corridors marked on the advisory include Ring Road, Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg, Tilak Marg, the India Gate/C-Hexagon area, Sardar Patel Marg, Patel Road, NH-48 and Parade Road, besides several roads in the Lutyens' Delhi area.
 

Traffic movement will be regulated across several key roads in the national capital on September 12 due to the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit, with restrictions and diversions in place from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm, according to the Delhi Police. Traffic restrictions will particularly affect roads around the Bharat Mandapam/Pragati Maidan area, with regulated movement extending to several important corridors connecting the central Delhi Zone with north, south, east and west Delhi.
 

Xi last visited India in 2019 for an informal summit with Modi in Mamallapuram near Chennai. He had earlier visited Goa in 2016 to attend the BRICS Summit and made his first visit to India in September 2014, when he held extensive talks with Modi. The 2014 visit came during the first terms of both leaders.

Xi's visit is significant, as it comes amid efforts by India and China to normalise relations after a prolonged freeze following the 2020 Eastern Ladakh standoff.

Asked how China viewed the Modi-Xi meeting, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a media briefing here that this will be the third year in a row the two leaders meet, after their meetings in Kazan and Tianjin.
