Andhra Pradesh will launch two advanced quantum computing testbeds today (April 14), with the inauguration coinciding with World Quantum Day. The state is poised to make history as the first in India to establish a dedicated ecosystem for testing and certifying quantum technologies, an NDTV report stated.
The initiative is a cornerstone of the state government's ambitious roadmap to transform Amaravati into a global 'Quantum Valley'.

PS Pradyumna, secretary to chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, said, "For the first time in the country, an indigenous quantum computing testing facility is being launched."
The state will officially inaugurate the 1S and 1Q quantum testbeds, marking a significant milestone in India's national quantum mission. The inauguration will take place at SRM University, AP, with a simultaneous virtual launch at Medha Towers in Gannavaram, near Vijayawada.
These early-stage systems will provide a vital platform for researchers and startups to test quantum components domestically. Pradyumna emphasised the strategic importance of the launch, noting that while the systems are small, they are exceptionally powerful and will play a crucial role in reducing India's dependency on foreign infrastructure for deep-tech development.
The superconducting technology-based 1S system and the 1Q system will function at extremely low temperatures, close to minus 273 degrees Celsius. Professor Ch Satish Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of SRM University, Andhra Pradesh, told NDTV, "Such cooling is essential for quantum systems to work accurately."
Furthering the state's vision for inclusive innovation, Pradyumna announced the facilities will be accessible to students, researchers, and startups alike.

Naidu had previously highlighted that quantum technology is set to play a pivotal role in shaping governance, healthcare, and future industries, with Amaravati destined to emerge as a global hub.
The landmark launch event is expected to draw a distinguished gathering of scientists, IIT professors, startup founders, and policymakers. In a massive outreach effort, over 1.5 lakh students from across the state are also expected to participate in the proceedings virtually, highlighting the government's focus on inspiring the next generation of tech leaders.
