Don’t get surprised, if you receive a call on your mobile from Cricket legend and Election Commission of India's (ECI) National Icon, Sachin Tendulkar, appealing to voters to cast their vote during the ongoing Lok Sabha election. As a part of its outreach to enhance voter turnout, ECI has introduced an array of various interventions, to appeal and motivate voters to cast their vote, during the ongoing elections.

One aspect of this campaign is criket Maestro Sachin Tendulkar asking voters to vote in large number in a pre-recorded video message, at various IPL venues.

In August 2023,  Bharat Ratna awardee Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar began a new innings - as the ‘National Icon’ for voter awareness and education for the Election Commission of India. An MoU was signed with him for a period of 3 years at an event organised at Akashvani Rang Bhavan, New Delhi in the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel. ECI through this partnership aims to bridge the gap between citizens, especially youth and urban populations and the electoral process thereby, trying to address the challenges of urban and youth apathy.

Lok Sabha Polls 2024

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 has seen voter turnout at polling stations of about 66.95% so far, as approximately 451 million people have voted during the first four phases of ongoing General Elections.

ECI has enhanced its targeted interventions to reach out to every eligible voter. The Commission led by CEC Rajiv Kumar along with ECs Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu further directed CEOs of the States going to poll in 5th, 6th and 7th phase to timely distribute voter information slips to all electors and enhance outreach activities.
