Indian employers are outpacing global adoption in key technologies, with 35% expecting semiconductors and computing technologies and 21% expecting quantum and encryption to transform operations, according to the Future of Jobs Report 2025 published by the World Economic Forum.

The report highlights increased digital access, geopolitical tensions, and climate-mitigation efforts as the primary trends shaping the future of jobs in India by 2030.

Companies in India are investing heavily in AI, robotics, autonomous systems, and energy technologies, aligning with global peers, the report said, adding that the country’s fastest-growing job roles, including Big Data Specialists, AI and Machine Learning Specialists, and Security Management Specialists, reflect these trends.

To address talent needs, 67% of companies in India plan to tap into diverse talent pools, compared to 47% globally. Additionally, 30% of Indian employers intend to adopt skills-based hiring by removing degree requirements, surpassing the global average of 19%, the report said.

Globally, the report predicts that 22% of jobs will be disrupted by 2030, with 170 million new roles created and 92 million displaced, resulting in a net increase of 78 million jobs. Technological advancements, demographic shifts, geo-economic tensions, and economic pressures are driving these changes.

The skills gap continues to be a major barrier to business transformation, with nearly 40% of required skills set to change. According to the report, 63% of employers cite the skills gap as a key challenge.

Increased demand for AI skills is reshaping the job market, with India and the United States leading in enrolment numbers. However, in India, corporate sponsorship plays a significant role in boosting GenAI training uptake, while in the United States, individual users are the primary drivers of demand.

The report also highlights job growth in frontline roles and essential sectors like care and education, while AI and renewable energy advances drive demand for specialist roles and reduce demand for others, such as graphic designers.
