The Supertech Twin Towers in Noida's sector-93A are set to be demolished in pursuance of a Supreme Court order that found the structures to have been built in violation of construction norms.

The Apex and Ceyane towers, both nearly 100-meter tall, are set to be demolished at 2.30 p.m. on Aug. 28, in what will be one of the largest demolitions by scale ever witnessed in the country.

The towers have already been fitted with around 3,700 kg of explosives that have been drilled into their walls. There will be a series of controlled explosions that will cause these towers to be reduced to debris in nine to ten seconds, PTI reported. The mandate for the demolition has been given to a Mumbai-based firm called Edifice Engineering and its South African firm, Jet Demolition.

This demolition was ordered by the Supreme Court last year after the Apartment Owners' Association of Supertech Emerald Court filed a petition against Supertech Ltd. for illegal construction on two grounds. The Supreme Court had also found the builder to be in violation of the National Building Code, 2005.

The maximum impact will be on the two societies adjacent to them—Supertech's Emerald Court and ATS Village. The apartment towers located next to the towers have been covered with a geo-textile fabric for protection. About 5,000 residents have also been asked to vacate the premises on Sunday morning. Their cars will also be moved out, with parking being made available in the Botanical Garden in Noida.

The Noida-Greater-Noida expressway, where the towers are located, will also be closed to traffic for a short period of time during the demolition.
