'Minor Technical Incident': HAL Dismisses Tejas 'Crash' Reports

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. on Monday refuted media reports of a crash involving the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas. The company clarified that the recent incident was a minor ground incident and not an aircraft crash.

The company in a statement on X said,"HAL acknowledges the recent media reports on the LCA Tejas incident and wishes to provide factual clarification. There has been no reported crash of the LCA Tejas. The event in question was a minor technical incident on ground."

HAL in an exchange filing also added that the LCA Tejas maintains "one of the world's best safety records among contemporary fighter aircraft." It further added that the issue is being analysed in depth according to the standard operating procedure.

The state-run aerospace major also mentioned that it is working with the Indian Air Force for a speedy resolution.

HAL's clarification follows media reports on Sunday that a Tejas aircraft sustained significant airframe damage after overshooting the runway at a frontline airbase. This was allegedly after a suspected brake failure.

The pilot had ejected safely, PTI had reported quoting sources. The report also added that the aircraft was returning to base after a routine training sortie when the incident occurred.

It was after the episode that IAF grounded its fleet of around 30 single-seat Tejas jets to conduct extensive technical checks.

This is the third accident involving a Tejas aircraft in the recent years. The first wads in March 2024 when a Tejas jet crashed near Jaisalmer during an operational sortie. The second was in November 2025 during an aerial display at the Dubai Airshow.

The shares of HAL ended 3.56% lower on Monday at Rs 4,024.15 apiece, on the BSE. The shares had fallen as much as 4.65% during the day to Rs 3,976 per share. The shares of HAL have fallen 8.29% year-to-date and 18.09% in the last 12 months.
