Dressed in blue and armed with batons and pepper spray, these women look intimidating—for a reason. They are part of the Rajasthan Police’s special squad that patrols streets of Jaipur to prevent sexual harassment in public places.
Launched in May 2017, the scooter-borne unit monitors places like bus stops, universities and parks. Each of the 52 members on the squad has completed a month-long training in martial arts, fitness, horse-riding and women-related provisions of the law.
Their presence is reassuring for the women of Pink City. Locals residents are happy with the police’s effort.
