NASA has released the latest data about five asteroids that have just passed close to Earth. These asteroids have been travelling at great speed and came onto the US space agency's radar because of their close approaches to Earth.
NASA has a number of Earth and space-based telescopes, spacecraft and other gadgets to track these asteroids that warn if any one of them pose a threat to Earth. The last one that raised quite a furor was Asteroid 2024 YR4, which, initially, had a huge potential to strike Earth in December 2032. However, closer and fresh data collection by other telescopes has made NASA alter its initial assessment that the asteroid was going to crash against the Earth.
Now, the data emanating from NASA's technological assets is indicating that there is very little chance of the asteroid actually hitting the Earth. The chances have reduced to 0.28%. In fact, NASA has even deployed the mighty heir to the Hubble Space Telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope to study this asteroid, indicating that the US space agency is quite serious about its potential for destruction.
However, that is in the future, currently, NASA has been keeping tabs on 5 asteroids that just passed Earth.
1. Asteroid 2025 DZ2: This is a car-sized asteroid measured at around 13 feet and its closest Earth approach was 117,000 miles on Feb. 23, 2025.
2.Asteroid 2025 DS2: This is an airline-sized asteroid measured at around 150 feet and its closest Earth approach was 2,240,000 miles on Feb. 23, 2025.
3. Asteroid 2025 DP1: This is an bus-sized asteroid measured at around 29 feet and its closest Earth approach was 2,390,000 miles on Feb. 23, 2025.
4. Asteroid 2025 DX2: This is an airplane-sized asteroid measured at around 82 feet and its closest Earth approach was 2,920,000 miles on Feb. 23, 2025.
5. Asteroid 2025 DF1: This is an airplane-sized asteroid measured at around 110 feet and its closest Earth approach was 2,520,000 miles on Feb. 24, 2025.
