Meta’s next-gen Ray-Ban smart glasses are expected to debut in India soon. This week the tech giant expanded the availability of Meta AI on Ray-Ban Meta glasses to the European region. The AI-powered smart glasses are now available in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

This marks the latest wave of expansion for Meta’s wearable tech, with India joining the list of upcoming markets alongside Mexico and the UAE.

“Starting next week, we’ll be rolling out the ability for you to ask Meta AI about the things you’re looking at and get real-time responses to all our supported countries in the EU,” the company said in a release on April 23.

While Meta has not yet revealed the launch date and pricing for India, existing models of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are priced between $299 (around Rs 25,000) and $379 (around Rs 32,000). This may suggest that the prices in India may also start from Rs 25,000. Prescription lens options are available through Ray-Ban, which adds to the glasses’ appeal. For everyday users, the smart glasses come in classic wayfarer and headliner styles.

These smart glasses, developed in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, offer a hands-free way to capture moments, stream music and even get AI-assisted information, without the need to reach for your phone. Meta says the eyewear has been redesigned from scratch, promising a more immersive experience.

Voice-Powered Features Now Going Global

Meta’s smart glasses are gradually rolling out advanced features across new geographies. In recent months, users across Europe gained access to Meta AI, a voice-activated assistant capable of answering questions, identifying landmarks and offering contextual insights. Introduced in November 2024 in countries like France and Italy, this AI capability is now expanding to regions including Germany, Austria and the Nordics.

The users can ask questions like, “Hey Meta, tell me more about this landmark,” and receive immediate responses.

Translation, Music, Social Media: All On Your Face

Among the most anticipated features is live translation, which now supports conversations in English, French, Italian and Spanish, even without an active internet connection, provided the language pack is pre-installed. “Hey Meta, start live translation” is all it takes to bridge language barriers during travel or multilingual social settings.

Music lovers will appreciate the integration with Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Shazam. Similarly, Instagram integration enables direct messaging, calls and media sharing from the glasses themselves.

With India being one of the largest consumer markets for tech, the expected launch of Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses is likely to attract attention from early adopters and lifestyle enthusiasts alike. Keep an eye out as Meta confirms the official release date and pricing in the coming weeks.
