ChatGPT Down: OpenAI’s Chatbot Faces Outage In India, US, Other Regions; Users Getting No Response

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is reportedly facing an outage in India and other parts of the world. ChatGPT services appear to have been impacted by the outage on all platforms, including the web and app.  In addition to this, users have complained that the chatbot is not producing any responses or loading at all. 

Downdetector, a platform that tracks outage of web platforms, has also received reports of the ChatGPT outage. According to the site, there was a major disruption to the AI chatbot on October 6, when users began reporting outages at approximately 1:04 p.m. IST.

According to Downdetector’s live outage and reported problems map for OpenAI, in India, nearly 82% of issues were from ChatGPT users, while 12% were from the web browser, and 6% were via the mobile app. In about an hour, the outage graph displayed a sharp increase from almost zero events to over 770 reported events.

Among the areas in India reporting issues with ChatGPT were Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Surat.

According to Downdetector, more than 150 user-reported events were logged in the US by 1:10 p.m. PST. While 81% of events were ChatGPT-related, 12% faced issues with the app and 7% with the website. Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta were among the areas affected.

There were reports of outage from other parts of the world as well.

Users vented their frustration across social media and other platforms. Some users reported about getting no response from the ChatGPT, while others said there were delays in responses. Many users complained of pop-ups like “error in message stream” and “something went wrong” when attempting to initiate new chats or resume old ones. 

One user on Downdetector said, “I am not even getting a response lol.” 

Another wrote on X, “This is the worst time for chatgpt to be down.”

Yet another chimed in a lighter vein: “ChatGPT is down and I'm forced to use my own brain.”
