Dubai Extends 24-Hour Movement Restrictions for Another Week

(Bloomberg) --

Dubai is extending its 24-hour “National Sterilisation Programme” for one more week amid the coronavirus outbreak, the city’s media office said on Friday, citing the Supreme Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management.

The 24-hour movement restriction program which was initially implemented on April 4 is intended as a way to clean the streets and was extended from eight hours a day before that. Supermarkets, pharmacies and food delivery services continue operating around the city.

The United Arab Emirates, of which Dubai is a part, has reported a total of 5,825 virus cases, including 35 fatalities. It has already halted flights, shut down malls and rolled out billions of dollars-worth of stimulus packages in an effort to counter the effects.
