The Government of Sri Lanka has appointed Rakesh Ramanlal Shah, chairman and managing director of GSEC Ltd., as the Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, according to a statement by the High Commission of Sri Lanka on Monday.
The appointment aims to strengthen Sri Lanka's relations with Gujarat, leveraging the state's potential in trade, investment, and tourism. Gujarat is a key hub for industries like port development, renewable energy, ICT, and pharmaceuticals, the statement said.
Shah pledged to develop an action plan to enhance cooperation between Sri Lanka and Gujarat, particularly in connectivity and tourism.
The Indo-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and Industry will facilitate economic linkages between the two regions. Shah was accompanied by a business delegation representing various sectors, including automobile, aviation, and education. He is the first Honorary Consul appointed by Sri Lanka for the state of Gujarat, according to the statement.
