Saturday Bank Holiday: Are Banks Opened Or Closed On April 12?

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s calendar, as many as four bank holidays are lined up over the next seven days in various states of India.

As many as four bank holidays are lined up over the next seven days in various states of India. Bank branches will remain closed on occasions such as Ambedkar Jayanti, Good Friday, and other regional festivals during the weekdays. 

Before the next week begins with the public holiday on April 14 for Ambedkar Jayanti, many people are curious to know whether banks will remain operational on Saturday, April 12. 

Banks To Remain Open Or Closed on April 12?

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s calendar, the second and fourth Saturdays will be observed as holidays.

“All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holidays on second and fourth Saturdays,” the central bank stated on its website. 

This means that tomorrow, April 12, will be a bank holiday across India. Starting tomorrow, a continuous three-day holiday till April 14 will result in an extended long weekend for bank employees. 

While most states will observe a holiday on April 14, there are a few exceptions.

Which States Will Observe Bank Holiday On April 14?

Tripura, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Chandigarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam will observe a bank holiday on April 14. 

Further, some states will observe a public holiday on April 15 to mark regional occasions such as Bengali New Year’s Day, Himachal Day, and Bohag Bihu. These states are: West Bengal, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh.

On April 18, public and private banks in most states will remain closed to observe Good Friday. The exceptions include: Tripura, Chandigarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu-Kashmir.

On April 19, banking operations will resume as usual as the third Saturday is not scheduled as a day off in the RBI calendar. 

Those with pending bank work are advised to plan their transactions in accordance with the holiday schedule to avoid any last-minute confusion or inconvenience.
