Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday shared a glimpse into the new and upgraded Amrit Bharat Version 2.0 train that the government is set to roll out in the coming few years.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Vaishnaw provided a "quick dive into the upgraded features" of Amrit Bharat Version 2.0.
Vaishnaw said that the trains have been “thoughtfully” designed to make premium facilities accessible to ordinary citizens.
“The Version 2.0 of Amrit Bharat train is thoughtfully designed to bring premium train facilities within reach of ordinary citizens, combining affordability with modern comfort,” he wrote, sharing a video of the train that resembles the prototype of Vande Bharat sleeper trains.
Here are the key features of Amrit Bharat 2.0 trains:
Passenger Comfort
The Amrit Bharat 2.0 train comes with a Vande Bharat-like colour. It is equipped with ergonomic handles, chains with locking systems, ladders for easy access to upper berths and spacious aluminium luggage racks that have been redesigned. In addition, the upper berths have aluminium extrusions for more space. Thicker seat cushions will further ensure more comfortable journeys.
Semi-Automatic Couplers
The train comes with semi-automatic couplers that ensure jerk-free rides and provide easy coupling or uncoupling with automatic locking mechanisms. The couplers have energy-absorbing deformation tubes for crash safety.
Modular Toilets
The Amrit Bharat 2.0 has modular toilets with stainless steel wash basins with corian finishes. Hygiene has been given priority with a leak-proof design, better drainage and ventilation. The toilets also feature bright LED spotlights, dustbins and fire-safe FRP panels.
Upgrades For Modern Convenience
The cabins of the train have been upgraded with modern LED lights and corridors with better fans. The aluminium windows with fewer screws will enable passengers to open or close them seamlessly. The cabins also come with USB-A and USB-C chargers, mobile phone holders, sturdy bottle holders and snack tables.
Enhanced Safety And Connectivity
To promote the safety of passengers, Amrit Bharat 2.0 will be equipped with EP assist brakes for precise and smooth halts as well as flexible gangways with durable footplates.
Emergency Talk-Back System
The train also comes with emergency talk-back systems installed in every coach. This will ensure quick, and two-way communication between passengers and the guard in case of emergencies.
Vaishnaw further shares images of him inspecting the manufacturing of Amrit Bharat 2.0 coaches at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai on Friday.
Amrit Bharat Express is a low-cost, non-AC sleeper cum unreserved superfast train that connects cities that are over 800 kilometres apart, catering to ordinary citizens of India. The first Amrit Bharat Express was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024.
