The Government of Maharashtra has issued a list of public holidays for the upcoming year, 2025. As per the calendar, government offices, banks and other related entities will remain closed on 24 public holidays in the state during 2025. These holidays include religious, cultural, and national observances including Holi, Diwali, and Independence Day.
Public holidays in Maharashtra are notified under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881.
Additionally, banks will have a holiday on April 1 for the closing of their annual accounts. State government offices will not have these holidays.
The Maharashtra government has also announced a holiday on Oct. 23, Thursday, for Bhaubeej, commonly known as Bhai Dooj. This holiday applies to offices of the State Government, State Public Sector undertakings, Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, Nagar Panchayat, Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and Village Panchayat.

Maharashtra Public Holidays Falling On Sunday
In 2025, four public holidays will coincide with Sundays: Republic Day (January 26), Gudi Padwa (March 30), Ram Navami (April 6), and Muharram (July 6). Since public offices are generally closed on Sundays, no extra closure will be required on these dates.
As per the 2025 calendar, there will be over nine long weekend opportunities in 2025. The Indian stock market including the BSE and NSE will remain closed for 14 trading days during the year.
