IMD Forecasts 'Heavy' To 'Very Heavy Rainfall' Over Parts Of West India For Next Seven Days

The Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday projected likelihood of "heavy" to "very heavy" rainfall over segments of West India for the coming seven days.

Southwest monsoon is projected to advance over the remaining parts of India in the next three to four days.

The weather body similarly predicts "heavy" to "very heavy" showers over north-west India. Light to moderate rainfall at most places in this region is anticipated along with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty wind speeds over 30-40 km/h from June 26 to July 2.

Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan will see isolated heavy rainfall over the same period.

Southwest monsoon has further advanced over some more parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, the IMD said.

Arunchal Pradesh will see heavy rainfall on June 30, with the rest of Northeast India set to witness thunderstorm, lightning and isolated heavy rainfall.

East and Central India will predominantly have light to moderate precipitation with west Madhya Pradesh likely to see very heavy rainfall from June 26 to July 2. Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Jharkhand will have isolated heavy rainfall.

Light to moderate rainfall at most places in this region is expected along with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty wind speeds over 40-50 km/h from June 26 to July 1.

Isolated places in Kerala and interior Karnataka are forecasted to have extremely heavy rainfall on Thursday.

Isolated heavy rainfall may take place over Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep from June 26-29.

Fishermen are not to venture off south Gujarat coast, north Arabian Sea, Konkan and Konkan-Goas coast, Karnataka, Kerala coasts and the Lakshadweep areas from 26 June to July 1.

They are also advised not to venture along and off the Somalia coast, north and south Arabian Sea, Oman, the adjoining Yemen coast and nearby sea areas from June 26 to July 1.

IMD further recommends total suspension of fishing operations of the above mentioned areas along with the following ones from June 27 to July 1: Odisha coast, north Andhra Pradesh coast, south-east Bay of Bengal, West Bengal coasts, over many parts of north-west, west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal.
