Foreign institutional investors became sellers in the cash market on Monday, and net sellers in index options, stock options, index futures and stock futures.
FIIs In Cash Market
Overseas investors and domestic institutional investors turned net sellers of Indian equities on Monday after a day of buying.
Foreign portfolio investors offloaded stocks worth Rs 278.70 crore, whereas the DIIs offloaded stocks worth Rs 234.25 crore, according to provisional data shared by the National Stock Exchange.
The FPIs offloaded equities worth Rs 226.7 crore, while the DIIs bought Rs 2,880-crore shares last week. In December so far, the FPIs have mopped up equities worth Rs 11,472.6 crore, and the DIIs purchased stocks worth Rs 4,393.7 crore.
In November, the FPIs sold stocks worth Rs 45,974.1 crore, and the DIIs mopped up stocks worth Rs 44,483.9 crore. In October, the FPIs had sold equities worth Rs 1.14 lakh crore, and the DIIs bought equities worth Rs 1.07 lakh crore.
In 2024 so far, foreign institutions have been net sellers of Rs 10,683 crore worth of Indian equities, according to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd., updated till the previous trading day.
FIIs In Futures And Options
Ahead of the Dec. 24 expiry, the value of outstanding positions — also called open interest in the derivatives segment — has decreased for the FIIs in Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 39%:61%.
The FIIs sold index futures worth Rs 910 crore, index options worth Rs 4,991 crore, stock futures worth Rs 3,607 crore, and stock options worth Rs 757 crore.
FII Contract Value
The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market decreased by Rs 49 crore at the end of December expiry from Rs 26,957 crore a day earlier to Rs 26,908 crore.
F&O Cues
The Nifty December futures were down by 0.45% to 24,720 at a premium of 52 points, with the open interest up by 0.19%.
The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Dec. 19 expiry series indicated most activity at 26,000 call strikes, with the 24,000 put strikes having maximum open interest.
Long-Short Ratio
The total long-short ratio for foreign investors fell to 1.23 from 1.28 in the earlier session.
