The market capitalisation of the top 10 most-valued firms lost a cumulative Rs 37,806.93 crore on Wednesday, led by State Bank of India, Reliance Industries Ltd., and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. ITC Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., and Bharti Airtel Ltd., were the other stocks that declined. While, ICICI Bank Ltd. remained unchanged.
State Bank of India saw a decline in its market cap, losing Rs 12,226.73 crore, which brought its value up to Rs 6.83 lakh crore. Hindustan Unilever's market capitalisation declined Rs 10,620.15 crore to Rs 5.62 lakh crore.
The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex ended with marginal losses on Wednesday, as ITC Ltd. and Larsen & Toubro Ltd. share prices dragged. The index erased most of its morning gains, as earnings reports did little to lift investor sentiments. The Nifty 50 ended 42.95 points, or 0.18% down at 23,696.30, and the Sensex ended 312.53 points, or 0.40% down at 78,271.28.
RIL declined Rs 9,066.69 crore to take its market cap to Rs 17.3 lakh crore. Despite the setback, RIL remained one of the top players in the market.
Bharti Airtel Ltd. also posted a negative growth, with its market cap decreasing by Rs 2,078.98 crore to Rs 9.44 lakh crore.
ICICI Bank Ltd. saw no change in market cap and remained at Rs 8.95 lakh crore.
While, HDFC Bank Ltd., Infosys Ltd., and Bajaj Finance Ltd. were the stocks that gained value.
Infosys Ltd. gained Rs 145.33 crore, pushing its market cap to Rs 7.88 lakh crore. It was followed by HDFC Bank Ltd. that saw a gain of Rs 10,630.33 crore, settling at Rs 13.26 lakh crore.
Bajaj Finance Ltd. gained Rs 1,346.32 crore to take its market cap to Rs 5.25 lakh crore.
