Shares of Reliance Industries Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Bharat Electronics Ltd. were the top gainers among the NSE Nifty 50 stocks on Thursday.
Among the losers were shares of Tata Motors Ltd., Infosys Ltd., Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd. and Bajaj Finserv Ltd.
The benchmark indices extended their gains to the third day while realty and oil and gas sectors led the sectoral advances. The NSE Nifty 50 advanced as much as 0.37% to 23,249.5, and the BSE Sensex rose 0.30% to 76,759.8.
Meanwhile, Sensex and Nifty are set for their fourth straight month of losses in January, the longest losing streak in 23 years.
Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices are on course to record the biggest monthly fall since March 2020. The Nifty Next 50—the next rung of liquid securities after the Nifty 50—trades over 20% below their peak last September.

Top Gainers
RIL and HDFC Bank led the gains as the two heavyweights closed 1.42% and 0.85% higher, respectively. Bharti Airtel advanced 2.52% while ICICI Bank rose 0.32%.
Bharat Electronics rose 4.32% after it reported its third-quarter earnings. The net profit of the company increased 53% year-on-year to Rs 1,311 crore for the quarter ended December. Revenue from operations rose 38.7% YoY to Rs 5,771 crore in the same period.
Top Losers
Tata Motors was the top loser, in the backdrop of its net profit declining and missing estimates in the third quarter. The stock fell as much as 9.2% during the day to Rs 683.2 apiece on the NSE.
Infosys' scrip also fell and closed 1.13% lower, while Kotak Mahindra Bank ended 0.98% lower.
