Jet Airways (India) Ltd. reported its third straight loss in the second quarter ended September because of higher crude prices, a weaker rupee and lower yields. Yet, that’s not a rare occurrence for India’s second-largest airline.

In the last decade, the carrier lost three times of what it earned as profit—a total net loss of Rs 12,457 crore against a profit of Rs 4,122 crore. The Naresh Goyal-led company stayed in the red half the time during the period, reporting a loss in 20 quarters compared with a profit in 21.
