Sensex Trades Firm, Nifty Above 7,650

The BSE Sensex traded strong during the noon trade maintaining its early gains as investors put aside geopolitical concerns, at least for the moment.

Among the sectoral indices the auto sub-index gained the most followed by pharma and energy index.

Tata motors gained 6 per cent whereas Eicher Motors was up over 4 per cent on continued buying on the back of better-than-estimated quarterly earnings.

Energy stocks also gained as crude oil prices remain near its recent lows amid plentiful supply. ONGC and GAIL were up nearly 3 per cent each whereas BPCL gained 1.29 per cent.

As of 11.55 a.m. Sensex traded 150 points higher at 25,669 and Nifty was up 41 points at 7,667.

Market breadth was positive as 321 stocks out of the BSE 500 shares were gainers.

Coal India and Sun Pharma gained nearly 2 per cent each ahead of their earnings later today.

Bharti Airtel was the top loser in Nifty followed by Mahindra & Mahindra and ITC.
