Rohan Mirchandani, co-founder of start-up Epigamia, died on Dec. 21, due to cardiac arrest, according to an official statement.
The senior leadership of Epigamia, led by Ankur Goel, chief operating officer and founding member, as well as Uday Thakker, co-founder and director, will continue to steer the company’s day-to-day operations with the full support of the board of directors, including Rohan’s family, Raj Mirchandani, Verlinvest, and DSG Consumer Partners, read the statement shared by Epigamia parent Drums Food International Pvt.
Mirchandani, who was 42 years old, was a graduate of NYU Stern School of Business and The Wharton School. He co-founded Drums Food International Pvt. in 2013. Under Mirchandani's leadership, Epigamia — a new age FMCG brand — became among the country's most prominent Greek yogurt brands. Its products, including yogurt, curd, milkshakes, smoothies, and kheer, are sold in over 25,000 outlets across 30 cities.
The Deepika Padukone-backed start-up was preparing for a Middle East expansion by 2025-26. To scale Epigamia’s revenue to Rs 250 crore in this fiscal was also part of Mirchandani's plans for the company’s growth.
"Rohan was our mentor, friend, and leader. We remain steadfast in our determination to carry forward his dream with strength and vigour," Goel and Thakker said in a joint statement. "Rohan’s vision and values will continue to guide us, as we work together to honor the foundation he built and ensure that his dream continues to flourish."
“Rohan was not only a visionary leader but also an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering commitment, boundless energy, and deep passion for Epigamia have left an indelible mark on all of us. We will work closely with the leadership of the company to take Rohan’s legacy to greater heights," the board of Epigamia stated.
Mirchandani's untimely passing follows a series of tragic losses within the startup ecosystem. Rohan Malhotra, co-founder and managing partner of early-stage venture capital firm Good Capital, passed away on Oct. 1. In 2023, Ambareesh Murty, the 51-year-old co-founder of online furniture store Pepperfry, suffered a cardiac arrest while biking in Leh. Pankhuri Shrivastava, the founder of eponymous women-focused social community platform backed by Sequoia Capital, also succumbed to cardiac arrest in 2021.
