Bharti sacks top executive Jai Menon for links to firms that got contracts: sources

Bharti group has sacked Jai Menon, group CIO or chief information officer and director of global innovation and IT, for allegedly violating the company's code of conduct.
 
Sources alleged that Mr Menon was found to have financial interests in some firms that Bharti Airtel had awarded contracts to.
 
The company has confirmed Mr Menon's exit without citing reasons.

Mr Menon rubbished reports of financial irregularities and said he had left the company to pursue research and innovation in technology, PTI reported.
 
Mr Menon, who worked with Bharti for over 10 years, led global innovation, drove the strategic product roadmap and partner ecosystem for Airtel across all its operations in 19 countries in Asia and Africa.

He was also the group CIO across all businesses of Bharti Enterprises including telecom, towers, agriculture, retail, manufacturing/distribution and education.
 
Mr Menon, who joined Bharti in 2002 as corporate director, launched Airtel's Enterprise Business as its joint president, and led IT/Customer Service as its director.

Previously, he was corporate officer and executive vice president at AT&T (formerly BellSouth), USA, managing growth businesses and strategic alliances. He started his career at IBM's Watson Labs, USA and rose to become an IBM executive director in Software Group leading worldwide research-to-market business for rich media.
 
Mr Menon is an IIT Delhi graduate and received a doctorate in computer science from Cornell University.
