In yet another key development in the Middle East, Israel's military said it carried out an extensive operation overnight, targeting Iran's presidential compound and key leadership facilities, located in the heart of the capital, Tehran.

In a statement posted on Telegram, the Israel Defence Forces said its air force has dropped 'numerous munitions' on what is described as Iran's leadership complex, with the key targets involving Iran's Presidential Office, the Supreme National Security Council building, as well as other command and security installations.

This comes just days after the demise of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which has led to a national mourning across the country, while some have rejoiced in the death of the Supreme Leader.

As per the Israeli military, the strikes that were carried out also hit infrastructure used by senior Iranian officials to conduct security assessments, including matters related to the nation's nuclear program. The statement added that sites within the complex, including facilities linked to military command functions, were targeted.

The Israeli military has further stated that the site was used to coordinate and fund activities against Israel using regional proxies. The strikes, therefore, could serve as a significant blow to Iran's command and control systems.

The strikes are yet to be confirmed by Iranian authorities, particularly when it comes to damages or potential casualties. It could potentially spur concerns of a widening conflict in the Middle East, which has led to fears of heightened volatility in global oil markets, with analysts predicting that crude prices could reach the triple-digit mark if the issue isn't resolved soon.
