US Vice President JD Vance has indicated that Washington expects a response from Iran by 8 PM, even as tensions remain high. Emphasising that the next move lies with Tehran, Vance acknowledged delays in communication but expressed confidence that a clear reply, positive or negative, will be received within the deadline.

“The ball is in the Iranians' court now. Iranians were not the fastest negotiators before the war started, and they are certainly not the fastest negotiators now,” Vance said during remarks alongside Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Budapest.

“We recognize that there is sometimes a delay in transmitting messages from one person to another, but we feel confident that we can get a response, whether it is positive or negative. We are going to get a response from the Iranians by 8 o'clock tonight.”

While maintaining a firm stance, Vance also struck a cautiously optimistic tone, expressing hope for a resolution that avoids further escalation. He underscored that the broader goal remains stability in global energy markets, ensuring uninterrupted oil and gas supplies so that households and businesses worldwide are not adversely impacted.

“I hope they make the right response, because what we really want is a world where oil and gas are flowing freely, where people can afford to heat and cool their homes, and where they can afford to commute to work,” Vance told the media.
