Iranian and US officials are set to meet in Oman this weekend for a fourth round of talks on Tehran's nuclear program, Iranian media said.
The discussions are scheduled for May 11 in Muscat, state-run Nour News reported Tuesday, citing an official familiar with the matter.
The talks come after a planned May 3 round in Rome was called off for logistical reasons, according to Oman's foreign minister.
Oman's been mediating the indirect negotiations between the Iranian and American sides, with Muscat having hosted two rounds since discussions started last month.
US President Donald Trump has said he wants an agreement that curbs Iran's nuclear program and prevents it from making an atomic weapon. He's threatened to use military action against the country if it doesn't accept a deal.
Earlier Tuesday, Iran said it was approaching the talks “with hope, though without excessive optimism.”
The Islamic Republic “remains committed to the pledge we've made regarding the peaceful nature of our nuclear energy,” a government spokesperson said.
Trump's main envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said this week he was optimistic the talks were making progress.
“I hope it is moving in the right direction,” Witkoff, who's leading the negotiations with Iran, said to reporters, according to Axios. “The president wants to see this solved diplomatically if possible, so we're doing everything we can to get it going.”
