Iran Says Offshore South Pars Natural Gas Field, Oil Infrastructure At Asaluyeh Attacked

Iran shares the offshore field in the Persian Gulf with Qatar, whom it has been pounding hard since the war began on February 28.

The state-run media of Iran on Wednesday reported that the country's facilities associated with the massive offshore South Pars Natural Gas Field have been hit. 

The state-run IRNA news agency also stated that the facilities at Asaluyeh in the southern province of Bushehr have also come under attack.

The State-TV said that phases 3, 4, 5, 6 of South Pars were hit.

They, however, did not elaborate any further. So far it is not known if there are  any casualties or not.

It was also not known if Israel or the United States carried out the strikes in the area.

However, AXIOS reported that Israel and US coordinated on strike of gas faility in Iran.

Iran shares the offshore field in the Persian Gulf with Qatar, whom it has been pounding hard since the war began on February 28. Qatar has not retaliated thus far.

The United States had earlier attacked the military installations on Kharg Island, Iran's main oil terminal. The island is responsible for the export of more than 90% of Iran's crude oil.

President of the US, Donald Trump, has repeatedly threatened to attack the island again, “for fun”. 

Iran took exception to Trump's claims and said Iran would respond to any attacks on its energy installations.

“This is an illegal war with no victory. People are being killed only because President Trump wants to have ‘fun'. This is what he has said,” Araghchi told CBS' Face the Nation Sunday show.

Meanwhile, Israel has intensified its strikes on Tehran, leading to the killing of some of the top leaders in the country, including Iran's security chief Ali Larijani and the Intelligence Minister, Esmail Khatib.
